Franc's Bassi Hogsback

A quiet build for someone who trusted us.

We don’t usually take on full builds with so little input. Most of the time, customers come in with spreadsheets, long wishlists, or a frame already in hand. But this one was different.

Franc reached out and asked, simply:
“Can you build me a Bassi?”

That was it. No parts list. No component preferences. Just a reference photo and a budget. And a sentence that stuck with us:
“I trust you.”

That kind of trust is rare. It’s not something we take lightly. So we said yes. And we asked the usual questions —
Where do you ride? What kind of riding brings you joy? Do you climb a lot? Ride flats? Roll through mixed terrain? Do you want comfort, speed, simplicity?

We sent back our first suggestion. Frank liked the direction. From there, the rest of the build unfolded naturally.

The Build

We started with the Bassi Hogsback, a frameset we love for its versatility and timelessness. It’s a bike that feels just as happy on forest paths as it does hauling groceries or climbing gravel fire roads. Sandy Beige felt right, not loud, but not forgettable either.

We kept things practical and solid throughout. Shimano Cues 2x10 for good range and reliable shifting across mixed terrain. A Velo Orange Grand Cru crank for a touch of class. Continental Racekings for a confident ride, and a Brooks C17 in orange, for a nice little spark of color.

The Ride We Imagined

We built this bike for someone who rides with intention. Maybe not racing, but not just cruising either. Someone who takes their time but still likes to get places. Someone who enjoys the little details — the feel of cork grips, the sweep of a bar, the click of a smooth shift.

This bike could live in the city or out of it. It’s ready for the daily ride, or the weekend escape. For loaded days and quiet trails.

Every now and then, a build reminds us why we do this.

Not because we’re chasing trends.
Not because we want the most expensive parts.
But because someone asked us to make something — and meant it.

Thank you, Franc, for the trust. We hope this bike gives back what you put into it.

See you on the road.
